Special Events and Entertainment
Renton has a variety of special
events that take place throughout the year, including
a Kids Fishing Derby, an old fashioned Fourth of July
community picnic and "Clam Lights", a spectacular display
of waterfront holiday lights at Gene Coulon Memorial
Beach Park. The highlight of the year is IKEA
Renton River Days. This community festival takes
place in late July and early August and includes a parade,
sports events, golf tournament, live music, art shows,
crafts and vendor booths, food galore and much, much
more.
For year-round entertainment, Renton has three theatres, the new 550-seat Renton
IKEA Performing Arts Center (a Renton School District
facility on the campus of Renton High School), the 300-seat
Carco Theatre (a City-owned facility) and the 312-seat
Renton Civic
Theater (a private, nonprofit facility). The Renton IKEA Performing
Arts Center provides a state-of-the-art performance venue
for both Renton High School students and the community
to showcase performing talents. Carco is used by a variety
of performing arts groups, including the Valley Community
Players, King County's oldest theatrical arts organization.
Both the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center and Carco
Theatre have many amenities and flexible hours and are
suitable for business meetings, seminars, receptions
and other activities. Renton Civic Theater presents six
top-quality shows per season, featuring three musicals,
balanced with three other shows, a variety of comedies,
mysteries or dramas.
Hospitality
Renton hotels provide great opportunities
and rates for both business and pleasure travelers.
Given Renton's central location, close proximity to
two airports, and access to regional businesses, recreational
and tourist attractions, visitors are choosing Renton
hotels. Comprised of ten hotels with almost 1,300 rooms,
the
Renton Visitor’s Connection promotes the tourism
and hospitality industry in Renton. The hotels provide
quality services and amenities with a variety of choices
for business and leisure travelers, including guest
rooms and/or suites for both value-conscious and upscale
travelers. For example, the member hotels of the Renton
Visitor’s Connection include both full-service
business-class hotels and boutique-style all-suite
hotels. Most of
the hotels are new or recently modernized.
The current initiatives of the
Renton Visitor’s Connection include coordinated marketing and
advertising for member hotels and informational tours
for regional meeting planners. The Renton Visitor’s Connection
also has membership affiliations with the East-King
County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Seattle-King
County Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition,
the Association helps sponsor the Renton School District's
Travel and Tourism Program.
